Solo – The Single Person’s Guide to a Remarkable Life

In a world where most people get married, where do you turn for advice if you don’t want to settle down – for now, or forever? Solo is the single person’s guide to a remarkable life. Welcome to the podcast that explores how being unattached affords you the opportunity to be adventurous, start a business, make art, travel the world, get in shape, or simply sleep in when you want to. Join Dr. Peter McGraw – behavioral scientist, humor researcher, and bachelor – as he interviews unmarried men and women living remarkable lives and assembles advice from leading experts about health, fitness, money, business, travel, fashion, art, leisure, and of course, sex and dating. More and more people are becoming aware that marriage is an overprescribed path to a good life. An observation reflected in rapidly changing demographics. One-hundred and ten million American adults are unmarried, and 25% of Millennials will never marry. It’s time for a new playbook, one that takes a positive view of living single—and living an interesting life. Dr. McGraw dispels myths of marriage and monogamy, profiles illustrious (and nefarious) unmarried women and men, and reveals his own experience and exercises in personal and professional development—from near misses in marriage to how he made the Stylish Scientist list. Living in a world where the single life is seen by the majority as a peculiar choice, it is not clear where to turn to for advice. Here you will find information, inspiration, and a new perspective on how to navigate an exciting new world. Solo is an essential resource for the person who will never marry, the person who is putting off marriage, the recently divorced, and any of the above who sucks at being single. He is a sought after professional speaker and speaks at Fortune 500 companies, public events, and universities around the world.Dr. McGraw’s research investigates the interplay of emotions and behavioral economics. He is also a global expert on the scientific study of humor. He directs the Humor Research Lab (aka HuRL) and co-developed a theory of humor (called the benign violation theory). McGraw hosts another podcast, I’M NOT JOKING, and he has developed Funny or True?, a live comedy game show that pits comedians against scientists to see who has the best blend of brains and funny bone. He co-authored the book The Humor Code: A Global Search for What Makes Things Funny. He is currently residing in Los Angeles where he is a visiting scholar USC’s cinema school, taking improv classes, and writing his next book (Shtick to Business: What the Masters of Comedy Can Teach You about Breaking Rules, Being Fearless, and Building a Serious Career). A bachelor who has never been married and has no kids, Dr. McGraw knows what it’s like to thrive as a single person. He’s traveled to over 40 countries and lived on both coasts of the United States and in between. He has worked hard over the years to develop perspectives and practices designed to facilitate healthy habits, and creating professional and personal success. Moving through this world with ease, he can have difficult conversations with family, friends, strangers, and dates about unmarried life.
